This page is dedicated to Reveille - an outwardly normal teenager - who tragically took her life at 13. Reveille's story serves as a reminder that mental illness does not discriminate, and can affect anyone - even those who seem to be happy and thriving, visible on the surface.

*If you are silently struggling with depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, or are feeling like Reveille was, please reach out to us for support.

Remembering Reveille

Signs of inner mental trauma are not always apparent. Hence, our goal is to educate the public, particularly educators and young people on the signs of mental trauma, (noticeable or hidden),  as well as how to respond to or treat those who are facing psychological challenges. Further, we want to encourage open discussion about mental health. If we can talk openly about depression and prevent even one suicide, then Reveille's death will not have been in vain. By sharing stories like Reveille's, we want to help create a world where no teenager feels so alone that they see suicide as the only option.

THEUntoldStory

Reveille at New Year's Eve

Reveille Vittetoe was born on November 27, 2009. She was just a couple of weeks away from celebrating her 14th anniversary of life before the tragedy. She was bright, smart and excelled at all subjects, particularly math. Reveille was taking advance placement mathematics at Portage High School and a member of the Junior Honor Society and Student Council at Fegely.

Reveille loved the arts! She was a talented artist and musician even at her young age. Angel loved music, singing, participating in choir, art, painting, crafts, especially crochet. Angel had won several awards for art with the Boys and Girls Club Portage and had items in the Porter County Arts-A-Budding exhibit at Valparaiso University.

“I am Reveille. Beautiful like my name, I was raised with an angel for a mother and absent father. I am often crying, often struggling to get through the day and life is so very tiring. However, music calls my name and fashion is my best friend in case I'm upset.”

“Dear future me,
It is the end of 8th grade at Fegely.
I earned a 4.0 GPA at the ennd of the school year. In 8th grade, I tried new things such as reading, writing, and all-state choir. In ELA, I learned main ideas and how to write better essays. I achieved 3 goals this year:
 1. I made all-state & circle the state.
2. I passed geometry
3. I became happier.
One thing I learned myself is I like people.

Sincerely,
Reveille”
